Shop Around the Corner is a monthly series where I share a variety of fan-tas-tic small business owners that I think you’d really dig. It’s very important to me to share the love with fellow small business folks – the welcoming community of entrepreneurs I’ve met is quite strong, and there is so much incredible talent out there! I look forward to introducing you to great photographers, designers, shop owners…the list goes on and on!
I’m so happy to share Cora Bloom with you today! I met Corina, the owner and designer, at a photography workshop in Seattle last May, and we hit it right off. She is full of joy with a sweet, sweet spirit, and it’s a shame that we live basically across the country from one another. However, by the powers of the internet, we are able to keep in touch…and I’m able to show off her adorable shop!
Tell us about your business!
Cora Bloom was opened on March 1st 2013 and specializes in photography props and boutique style hair accessories.
What made you decide to open Cora Bloom?
Cora Bloom was born out of the desire to create new things!!! The idea started in the winter season when I don’t photograph due to weather. I was getting super stir crazy with all this free time and this overwhelming desire to be artistic and create!! From there it turned into creating custom items to use during my own newborn sessions but soon turned into a full blown business!!
Where do you find inspiration?
I find my inspiration from all over but most of my inspiration comes from ETSY and Pinterest!! Love love love Pinterest!!
Favorite item that you sell?
I am obsessed with our Newborn Stretch Lace Pants Sets right now!! They are so tiny and cute I just love them!!!
Any advice for those just starting out?
Take it slow. Come up with a business plan. Figure out who your target customer base is, research what works and what doesn’t and then once you have figured out what you want to do GO FOR IT!!! Another key thing I think is crucial to having a successful ETSY business is having good product photos. Weather you learn photography or pay someone else to photograph for you its so important to have good pictures. Thats what will get customers to your site and notice your products in search engines!!
Three words to describe you/your life?
Dreamer, Inspired, Driven.
Story or moment in your business that was memorable/impactful?
I think the first month I was in business was extra memorable. It was so exciting and rewarding to see customers buying my products and leaving such kind feedback on what they thought about their experience or the product itself. I had planned and imagined this business for months and to see people reacting to it in such a positive and excited way was very rewarding!!
