I can’t see a dandelion without thinking of my dad. Growing up, I loved picking each and every white one in the yard, then blowing them to make wishes. This, of course, is a harmless, fun thing for children (and adults – I haven’t changed much!) to do.
We all know that blowing these creates the yellow dandelion flowers…..which are really just pretty weeds. Living with parents who took pride in their yard, poor Dad would cringe when he saw me “making wishes”. I don’t believe he ever told me to stop, which is another reason why I loved him. I think he enjoyed watching me run around the yard in the summertime, laughing as the white seeds floated through the air.
So go ahead – next time you see a white dandelion, make a wish. And make it a good one!
